Monkeypox is poised to get a new name, says the World Health Organization

after scientists recently criticized the current name as "discriminatory and stigmatizing.

The researchers also said that it 

was incorrect to name the virus versions next to parts of Africa.

The WHO is working with experts to "change the name of the smallpox virus,

 its pros and the disease it causes,"

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Tuesday about the epidemic.
